This request is to make canister storage able to take advantage of newer Flash SAN systems that have onboard hardware that can do encryption, compression and most importantly, data deduplication. This can get as as much as 7x increase in storage and session retention.
To accomplish this, canister hashing (encryption of LSSN and indexes) would need to be OPTIONAL during install when done by an administrator. There would be warnings, saying software encryption would be turned off and only be done if the admin was using hardware-based encryption instead. Existing installs would remain the same. You would need to migrate storage and systems over to a new Tealeaf canister system to use this method, but it would be possible and the benefit would be greatly worth it.
